Ballet is an excellent foundation for all styles of dance as it encourages body awareness, technique and discipline. Each class is designed so that the student is warmed up at the barre, centred, and challenged through large travelling sequences from the corner.
The Ballet syllabus that we teach at Elevation Dance Studios is that of the internationally recognised Royal Academy of Dance (R.A.D).
Jazz is a fun, up-beat and energetic style of dance which has evolved over the years to include styles such as Broadway jazz, Commercial and Funk. Each class commences with a warm up, isolations, stretch and strengthening, corner travelling progressions, and choreography usually performed to contemporary music.
Contemporary dance can not be defined by a single technique but a collection of methods allowing this style to continuously evolve and to draw influence from as many genres as possible. Contemporary at Elevation Dance Studios will challenge the dancer in all planes of movement, transitioning in and out of the floor, and to find orientation upside down and inside out.
Butterfly ballet is the perfect introduction to dance for Children aged 3-5yrs. During this class we will explore elements of classical ballet, acrobatics and jazz to help encourage creativity, musicality, co-ordination and imagination.
Acrobatics is normally associated with sports and gymnastics, however we often apply cartwheels, handstands and walk overs to our choreography. This class is used as a training ground for such steps that require extreme balance, co-ordination and acute body awareness. The safety of our dancers always comes first so we use a special Acrobatic mat to ensure soft landings.
Elevation Dance Studios is very excited to offer VCE dance to our senior students who are either studying VCE dance or thinking about studying VCE dance in the future. During this class students will explore improvisation and movement generation exercises to assist in creating their own choreography.
Hip Hop is one of those styles that adopts many genres, and can be seen in music video clips. After warming up, the remainder of the class is spent on learning choreography and developing the strength and precision to execute the highly stylised movement.
This class is for advance ballet students who have completed high levels of classical ballet, undergone a pointe assessment with a physiotherapist, and been fitted with the correct pointe shoes. We commence each class at the barre developing the strength and technique required for centre practice.
Tap dance is a fun and exciting class that focuses on the percussive nature of the feet. This class requires special shoes fitted with metal on the ball and the heel of the foot. We are currently teaching the syllabus from the Australian Teachers of Dance and are excited to offer both Pre Inter and open Tap classes.
